R.E. (Religious Education)

Intent

Through the Religious Education curriculum at Danesholme Junior Academy, we aim to develop pupils’ religious literacy and their knowledge and understanding of principal religions around the world. We want our pupils to develop attitudes of respect towards other people who hold views and beliefs different from their own and the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious issues.

Implementation

Our approach to teaching our religious education curriculum is enquiry led, starting with a key question based on human experience.   We use the Discovery RE scheme as the basis for our curriculum, covering the following religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.

This is how our curriculum is mapped through the school:

YEAR 3

YEAR 4

YEAR 5

YEAR 6

There is more information for parents on Discovery RE in the booklet at the bottom of this page.

Parental Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

We respect the rights of parents and carers regarding their child’s education. Under current legislation, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) lessons. This includes activities related to Religious Education that do not form part of the statutory National Curriculum.

If you wish to exercise this right, we ask that you inform the school in writing, detailing whether you are withdrawing your child from all or specific parts of the RE curriculum. We are happy to discuss any concerns you may have and provide further information to help you make an informed decision.
