D.T. (Design Technology)

Intent

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Implementation

The teaching and implementation of the Art and Design Curriculum at Danesholme Junior Academy is based on the National Curriculum.  Where possible art and design technology teaching will link to our wider curriculum such as the children creating their own version of the Bayeux Tapestry using printing and textile techniques or creating electrical games building on the knowledge of electrical circuits. Influential artists are included in our curriculum and give children the opportunity to study the artwork of the masters which not only influences their artistic style but even improves the children's skills and decisions when creating their own original work.
