Danesholme Junior Academy

PE & Sports Premium

Vision

At Danesholme Junior Academy we recognise the role that PE has to play in promoting a long term healthy lifestyle which is both enjoyable and fulfilling. Our vision is to provide a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires children of all abilities to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.

Intent

At Danesholme Junior Academy we recognise the role that Physical Education has to play in promoting a healthy lifestyle which is both enjoyable and fulfilling. We aim to ensure the following pupil outcomes:

  • Allow children from Year 3 -6 to experience a range of sports and activities.
  • Provide opportunities for children to enjoy PE and school sport through the curriculum, break times and after school clubs.
  • Develop confidence and skills to support children's wellbeing.
  • Promote active participation and provide opportunities for children to compete in sport and other activities to build resilience and embed values such as team work, fairness and respect.
  • Understand that PE and sport are important as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Identify the long-term benefits of physical activity and exercise.
  • Aim to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE.
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for children to progress in a range of physical activity.

Implementation

  • At Danesholme Junior Academy, our teachers are delivering a good quality of teaching and learning in PE through our planned curriculum using the PE planning scheme or work. This provides them with the basic subject knowledge to enable them to plan for, and deliver key knowledge and skills required for each year group, inline with the National Curriculum.
  • This has been observed through lesson drop-ins, curriculum coverage, pupil and staff voice as well as termly assessments to monitor attainment and progress of our pupils.
  • Teachers have been supported through team teaching opportunities with external coaches for areas in which they lacked confidence, and have also been given further training on the use of assessment data collection, move off and think and differentiation. This has enhanced the delivery of the PE curriculum as it has upskilled all teachers, and increased their confidence, in delivering these key aspects of the curriculum.
  • We have invested money this year in a variety of new equipment that has enhanced the safety of the teaching and learning in PE, as well as providing opportunities for children to access different sports not provided in school through a variety of workshops as well as the increased number of opportunities to participate in wider community competitions. We also continue to invest in equipment to help raise the children's fitness levels with things like fitness watches, new MOKI watches and a wide range of equipment for break times.
  • An annual review of teacher subject knowledge and confidence in delivery and assessment, as well as equipment audits and access to wider opportunities, ensures that teachers delivering the planned PE curriculum have had, and continue to have, appropriate training to ensure high quality teaching and learning in this subject. This in turn will ensure that our Academy continues to provide our pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum which inspires all of our pupils to be ambitious, engaged and achieve.

To facilitate this plan, a proportion of the Sport Premium Funding (£2,500 per Academy) will be utilised. The remaining funding will be used by Principals to further enrich their PE and sport provision, taking into consideration individual sports partnerships, tailored areas for curriculum development and localised specialist providers and facilities.

The Director of Sport is available to advise and support all primary Principals with all aspects of PE and Sport (including Sport Premium Funding).

Below is the package that all primary Academies within the Trust receive. This includes potential development areas and the pedagogy supporting the initiatives.
